Located near Karatina in Nyeri County, Tegu Factory is one of the largest and oldest wet mills in the Tekangu Farmers Cooperative Society. The society includes four factories known for disciplined processing and classic Nyeri cup profiles. Tegu has about 800 active farmer members and produces around 1,100 60-kg bags annually.
Situated at 1,600–1,800 meters above sea level on clay loam soil, the factory receives about 1,400 mm of annual rainfall with an average temperature of 68.9°F, conditions that support slow cherry maturation and concentrated flavors.
Members grow SL 28, SL 34, Batian, and Ruiru 11 varieties, chosen for quality, resilience, and yield. Cherry sorting precedes pulping, followed by overnight fermentation. The parchment is then washed, density-graded, and dried on raised tables for 8–14 days to preserve clarity and structure.
Tekangu Farmers Cooperative Society ensures consistency from delivery to export through standardized processing and traceability. The cooperative also distributes organic manure made from coffee pulp to support member productivity and soil sustainability.
